Screenshot Redact (“the extension”) is a free Chrome extension published by Oxagile (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains what the extension does with your data. The short version: the extension processes everything locally in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. We do not collect, store, transmit, or have access to any of your data.

1. Summary

  • No data is collected. We receive nothing from your use of the extension.
  • No data leaves your browser. The extension makes no network requests. There are no servers, no cloud processing, and no uploads.
  • No analytics or tracking. The extension contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, cookies, or third-party code.
  • No accounts. There is no sign-up, login, or user identification of any kind.

2. What the extension does

When you click the extension’s toolbar icon on a web page, the extension:

  1. Captures an image of the currently visible browser tab (a screenshot of what is on screen).
  2. Opens an editor page, inside the extension, that displays that screenshot.
  3. Lets you draw boxes over parts of the image and blur or pixelate them.
  4. Lets you download the edited image as a PNG file to your own device.

Every one of these steps happens entirely on your own computer, within your browser. The screenshot and the edited image are never sent to Oxagile or to any third party.

3. Data the extension handles (and how)

The only data the extension ever touches is the screenshot you choose to capture and edit.

DataWhere it is processedWhere it is storedWho can access it
Captured screenshotLocally, in your browserTemporarily in your browser’s in-memory session storage, used only to pass the image from the capture step to the editorOnly you
Edited (redacted) imageLocally, in your browser (on an HTML canvas)Only if and where you choose to save the downloaded PNGOnly you

The captured screenshot is held only in memory (Chrome’s session storage) for the brief moment needed to hand it to the editor. It is not written to a database, not synced, and not retained after your browser session ends. Closing the browser clears it. We never receive a copy.

The edited image exists only on the editor page until you download it. Where the downloaded file goes, and what you do with it afterward, is entirely under your control.

4. Permissions the extension requests, and why

Chrome requires extensions to declare the browser capabilities they use. Screenshot Redact requests the minimum necessary:

  • activeTab — allows the extension to capture an image of the tab you are currently viewing, but only after you click the extension’s icon. It does not grant access to your browsing history or to other tabs, and it does not run in the background.
  • storage — used only to temporarily hold the captured screenshot in memory so it can be passed from the capture step to the editor page. It is not used to track you or to persist personal data.

The extension does not request access to all websites, your browsing history, your bookmarks, your downloads list, your identity, or any other sensitive data.

5. Data we collect

None. We do not collect, receive, log, or store any personal data, usage data, diagnostic data, or content from your use of the extension. Because the extension makes no network connections, there is no channel through which your data could reach us.

6. Third parties

The extension uses no third-party libraries, services, SDKs, analytics providers, or content delivery networks at runtime. No data is shared with third parties because no data is collected in the first place.

7. Children’s privacy

The extension does not collect any data from anyone, including children. It is a local image-editing utility and is not directed at children.

8. Changes to this policy

If the extension’s functionality changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes (for example, if a future version introduced any feature involving a network connection) would be described here before that feature is released.
